Portrait of Sairaah Luther

Sairaah
Luther

I am a school student in New Delhi, and most of my time goes to two things: how people get access to what they are owed, and how they express who they are.

The first has taken me into policy research and geospatial analysis. I wrote a paper on why Aadhaar excludes the migrant families it was meant to serve, then built an accessibility index in QGIS to find where in Delhi that actually happens. In winter 2025–26 I worked at a constituency office in Uttar Pradesh on why crop insurance does not reach the farmers who pay for it.

The second keeps me on stage. I have trained in Indian classical dance since 2023, and my first published paper was on how contemporary dancers express gender identity through performance.

Between the two sits the work I care about most. As Youth Founder of the May Care Foundation I run Aadhaar enrolment camps in Delhi government schools, because the gap between a research finding and a child who can finally open a bank account is about six hours in a school hall with the right paperwork.

I also argue at Model UN conferences and host quizzes at school. In summer 2026 I spent sixteen days in Ladakh — eight of them helping build a classroom at Lamdon School in Sumoor, and the rest trekking to around 17,000 feet.

The question One line of
enquiry, four
ways in

Why does a document built to include people end up excluding the ones who need it most? Everything below comes back to that question — the paper that asked it, the map that located it, and the camps that answer it one student at a time.

The question, mapped

Three pieces of work that are really one line of enquiry: the paper asked why access fails, the geospatial index found exactly where it fails in Delhi, and the camps are what happens when you take the map seriously.

Access barriers and community-level vulnerabilities in Aadhaar enrolment among urban migrant populations

Aadhaar was built to be the key that opens the welfare state. This paper examines the paradox at its centre: for migrant families and their children — the households with the weakest documentary footprint to begin with — the same card becomes an instrument of exclusion, compounding the barriers they already carry.

  • Mapped the documentary prerequisites a migrant household cannot satisfy, and traced how each failure cascades into lost schooling, rations and banking.
  • Examined amendment services specifically — the point at which a change of address quietly severs a family from every benefit tied to the old one.

Gender representation in Indian classical and folk dance, and how contemporary dancers negotiate identity through performance

Indian classical dance carries centuries of encoded assumptions about who may embody what. This paper assesses how those representations have shifted over time, and how performers working today negotiate and express identity inside forms that were never designed to be negotiated with.

  • Traced the evolution of gendered roles across classical and folk traditions rather than treating either as static inheritance.
  • Centred the contemporary performer as an active interpreter of the form, not a vessel for it.

A GIS-based Aadhaar Accessibility Index for Delhi's informal settlements

The paper argued that access barriers are spatial as much as bureaucratic. This work tested that claim against data — turning an argument into a map a policymaker can act on.

  • Mapped slum clusters and Aadhaar enrolment centres across Delhi in QGIS, then applied buffer analysis to isolate settlements outside any realistic service radius.
  • Built an accessibility index integrating geospatial, demographic and infrastructure datasets into a single comparable score.
  • Designed a spatial decision-support model flagging high-risk communities by distance to the nearest centre, migrant density and service coverage.
  • Produced an interactive dashboard so underserved areas — and the case for a camp in each — read at a glance.

Where the research goes

Four commitments running in parallel with school. Each one puts me in front of people whose problems do not appear in a syllabus.

May Care Foundation May 2026 – present Youth Founder & Student Ambassador

Aadhaar enrolment camps in government schools

The foundation works on empowering women, protecting children and restoring dignity to elders. My part is narrow and specific: making sure a missing Aadhaar card never costs a government school student a scholarship, a bank account, or a benefit they are already entitled to.

  • Organised 6+ enrolment camps attended by roughly 300 students, built around inclusion rather than throughput.
  • Partnered with three government schools in New Delhi's South East district, so enrolment happens where the students already are.
  • Ran tutoring sessions for children living in slum settlements.
Office of the MLA, Sikandra Rao Dec 2025 – Jan 2026 Civic Impact Internship

Making crop insurance actually reach the farmer

Selected for a Civic Impact Internship in Governance, Policies and Law under Mr Birendra Singh Rana, MLA for Sikandra Rao in Hathras district, Uttar Pradesh.

  • The PM Fasal Bima Yojana is close to free for the farmer — a 2% premium on Kharif crops, 1.5% on Rabi, with governments carrying the rest. The design is sound; the delivery is not. Compensation arrives late, arrives short, or does not arrive.
  • Conducted primary research across the constituency, reading failure patterns rather than scheme documents.
  • Proposed a Nodal Farmer model with a grievance support system, so a claim in the smallest village has a named person accountable for it and a route to escalate.

Early-years workshops for 25–30 children aged four to seven

Weekly sessions designed and led alongside the Vipla Foundation team, holding responsibility for group safety and inclusion throughout.

  • Structured sessions in dance, storytelling for early literacy, clay modelling, finger and hand painting, and music — introducing the jamboree, harmonica, piano and guitar.
  • Planned and ran a cultural visit to a Gurudwara on Guru Nanak Jayanti in November 2024.
  • Edited news articles and chronicles for the company.
Lamdon Model School, Sumoor — Nubra Valley 26 Jun – 11 Jul 2026 1 of 6 selected school-wide

Sixteen days, one classroom, 17,000 feet

A service expedition combining construction work, high-altitude trekking, and a fairly direct education in improvisation.

  • Eight days building a classroom at Lamdon Model School in Sumoor — educational infrastructure for a community that is genuinely remote, not rhetorically so.
  • Trekked to Charmangla Pass and Ulefu at roughly 17,000 ft, and visited Siachen Base Camp.
  • Worked around a landslide, a blocked road, and a broken bridge that had to be replaced by crossing a stream on foot.
